What Is
Shoulder/Humerus Fracture Repair?
Most shoulder/humerus fractures can be treated without surgery (between 50-85%). If you do need surgery due to the complexity of the injury Dr. Fitzpatrick will discuss with you if you are a candidate for fixation of the fracture with plates and screws or a replacement. Younger patients (typically less than 60 years of age) are treated with plates and screws depending on the location and severity of the fracture. Ideally, these are treated within 2 weeks of injury however Dr. Fitzpatrick is comfortable fixing these injuries that have gone on to a nonunion (unhealed) or malunions (healed crooked). He will discuss the risks and benefits of these injuries with you during your appointment.
